Studies Show What Developers Are Looking for Long-term

Studies show developers need more than high salaries and a promise of management roles to keep them happy.  According to this TechRepublic Article, software developers are looking for more interesting code to work on to feel fulfilled at the job they are in.  The report shows that developers are not really interested in becoming a “boring” manager.  They want to feel challenged in their current positions with little input from managers.  Of course, money and benefits are important but its not hard to find a job that pays, rather, engineers are driven by technical challenges instead of personal issues.  The article includes data from a stack overflow survey taken from more than 75,000 developers:
