Analyzing data for the Internet of Things

Analyzing IoT Data In Real Time

The Internet of Things — a network of connected devices that can send and receive data over the Internet — is a hot market topic.  According to some analysts, they predict that by 2020 there will be not just billions, but tens of billions of these devices.  They’ll be in your office, in your home, in your car, and you will also be wearing them for your health and wellness.  Because of the Internet of Things (IoT), information is everywhere.  How do you make sense of all this data?  The data produced by IoT solutions is so big that we have to process both the volume and the speed of the data that is produced by millions of IoT devices.  According to Cisco Vice President Mike Flannagan, “Traditionally, to perform analytics, it required all data to be moved to a central location to be analyzed. In the IoT, with the amount of data being created in multiple places, moving data to a central location for analysis is difficult, expensive and time consuming. Organizations can improve their ability to make decisions quickly by doing the analyzing where the data is created.”   This is a report as to why Hadoop combined with streaming analytics is the answer:  Internet Of Things Applications Hunger For Hadoop And Real-Time Analytics In The Cloud.  What do you think?
